Description
Vintage, very rare 14″ x 22″ on site poster for Jack Dempsey’s first title defense. The fight took place on Monday, September 6, 1920 at Floyd Fitzsimmons New Arena, Benton Harbor, Mich. This night was special not only because it was Jack Dempsey’s first title defense but also because Harry Greb was on the under card fighting Chuck Wiggins for the Light Heavyweight Championship, and Sam Langford was fighting against Bill Tate, which was advertised as “For Colored Heavyweight Championship”, and Tony Melchior fought against Homer Smith for the Heavyweight Championship of Middle West. Not only is this poster beautiful because of how rare it is, but it is also beautifully matted and framed. It is a definite addition to any serious boxing collector. Frame size is 19 1/2″ x 25 1/2″. Very good+ condition, other than circle marking around the Tony Melchior/ Homer Smith fight, as pictured. There is some glare from the glass, so if any more photos are needed, please email me for additional photos.
