Description

The 1963 Edward J. Neil memorial award presented to Emile Griffith. This award is considered to be one of the most prestigious in the entire boxing world and is awarded annually to the fighter of the year as picked by the Boxing Writer’s Association of America. Started in 1938 it has been given to fighters such as Jack Dempsey, Joe Louis, Sugar Ray Robinson and Muhammad Ali. In fact Emile Griffith was picked that year over Cassius Clay. Plaque is made of bronze and is mounted on black painted wood. It is in very good condition with some wear to the wood. Also attached are some photos that show him holding it the night he won the award.
